Description: Optimizing an artist or band's music in a live setting

Possibly coordinating lighting, sound, and other electrically-based systems e.g. MIDI automation or computer controls
Dealing with enormous pressure - no sound, no show
Dealing with equipment malfunctions
Dealing with unreasonable artists and / or unruly crowds

Requirements:

Vast knowledge of audio electronics is a necessity
Thorough understanding of the physics of sound, ability to optimize sounds in a given environment
Ability to get good tone from any given instruments and good sound from a room cursed with horrible acoustics
Can use wide variety of equipment - current and vintage
Good sense of logic and deductive reasoning for troubleshooting equipment failures
Able to handle emergencies and to work calmly under tremendous pressure
Perform repetitive tasks without losing focus
Able to withstand criticism for all problems, even though you may not be to blame
Can tolerate tantrums by musicians and roadies
If positioned in a mixing area near audience, able to gracefully handle abuse from crazed and /or intoxicated fans
In short, ability to execute job functions in an intolerable environment with impossible people
Able to work long hard hours and yet stay focused
Ability to withstand occasional electrical shocks :-)
