- Thorough understanding of the physics of sound, ability to optimize sounds in a given environment
- Ability to get good tone from given instruments
- Able to get along with people and handle criticism, esp. under pressure
- Ability to beat impossible deadlines
- Able to react effectively to equipment malfunctions, rock star's tantrums, and other unexpected events
- Should have ability to work long hard hours yet be able to stay focused
- Thorough knowledge of audio electronics
- Perform repetitive tasks without losing focus
- Able to survive without sunlight
